Ageing of the organism causes loss of tissue elasticity, subcutaneous fat, weakening of the skin supporting structure, and skin sagging. Sagging usually affects cheeks, skin around the eyes, eyebrows, lower part of the face, and neck. When sagging occurs in these areas, the face contour lengthens, and the face itself looks older. Younger people not ready for complete surgical face lifting also complain about sagging of cheeks and eyebrows. They want scars to be minimal after the procedure, and face skin to look „fresh“ (to rejuvenate it without changing the natural face contour), and thus they are looking for effective and minimally invasive procedures, unlike surgical open facelift.
According to plastic surgeons, each patient that has decided to go through with an aesthetic surgery wants the post-operative scars to be minimal, especially when it has to do with face procedures. But the scar of the incision will be most likely visible, even in the case of involving the most accurate endoscopic procedures. Patients’ wishes and expectations had influenced the search for the ways aiming to ensure minimal post-operative scars and had determined the introduction of the procedure for face lifting involving thread implanting.
Thread face lift procedure is less invasive than classic mid face and eyebrow lifting procedures. Moreover, this procedure takes less time, and the post-operative period is shorter. Thread lifting of the skin is becoming more popular among young people seeking for subtle changes to prevent the occurrence of signs of ageing (face skin sagging).
The results of the thread lifting of the skin are clearly seen right after the procedure, getting better within about six months, since it causes activation of collagen production in the area around the implanted threads, which in its turn stimulates additional face lifting.
There are different types of absorbable threads. Some threads have „cogs“ orientated in one direction, which go outwards during implantation into subcutaneous tissues, and „extended“ to the planned area of the skin. When the threads are inserted under the skin, the cogs cling to the soft tissue. Then the tissue is anchored and lifted. Threads are carefully implanted in the face areas planned in advance in order to create a support for tissues and to lift them. After implantation the threads attach to the trabecular meshwork of connective tissues, thus lifting the flabby areas of face skin, and restoring the face contour. Another type of absorbable threads – threads with absorbable cone anchors oriented in fours to different sides from the thread centre. These bidirectional threads produce a dual effect. By pulling the skin on the inserted thread the cone anchors stick in the fatty tissue and fix the skin in the corrected position. The absorbable thread also stimulates collagen synthesis.
Thread skin lifting may be done in the external areas of eyebrows, cheeks, lower jaw, lips, and neck. Thread lifting of the skin may be done in a combination with tissue fillers, fat transplantation, or other skin rejuvenation procedures. The overall result of these procedures may be splendid.
