Become a sperm donor

Why is sperm donation necessary?

According to statistics, in 30 to 40% of couples unable to conceive, male infertility plays a role due to fertility disorders. Using a sperm donor is often the only solution for such couples. For this reason, demand for sperm donors has significantly increased.

Who can become a sperm donor?

Men of all racial and ethnic backgrounds who meet the following criteria can become sperm donors:

  • Age: 18-35 years
  • Height: At least 178 cm
  • You are within the normal weight limits for your muscular build
  • You have higher education
  • You are a non-smoker
  • You do not abuse alcohol or narcotic substances, including cannabis (you will undergo drug testing during the entire donation process)

Can a donor benefit from donation?

The following examinations and tests are free of charge for donors:

  •  Semen analysis (test of sperm health);
  • tests for sexually-transmitted diseases (Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrheae, Mycoplasma genitalium, Ureaplasma parvum, Ureaplasma urealyticum);
  • drug testing;
  • tests for infectious diseases (Hepatitis B surface antigens, Hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc), detection of Hepatitis B virus by amplification, Hepatitis C virus antibodies, detection of Hepatitis C virus by amplification, test for human immunodeficiency virus type 1 and 2 antibodies, detection of human immunodeficiency virus by amplification and syphilis testing (TPHA, RPR)

Becoming a sperm donor is both honourable and beneficial.

Does a sperm donor receive a monetary reward?

According to Lithuanian legislation, sperm donation is voluntary and gratuitous. Sperm donation is regulated bythe Order of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Lithuania No. V-1468 dated 23 December 2016 “Regarding the Approval of the Requirements Regulating the Activity of the Reproductive Stem Cell Bank and Human Reproductive Cell Donorship”.

Will the couple know whose sperm is being used?

No.

Will donor confidentiality be maintained?

Our donor room in Vilnius is located in a large office building with many other departments. The fertility centre, which collects the sperm, is not a standalone building labelled as a sperm bank. We are certainly proud of the work we do and the difference we make by helping families to have children, but we are discreet in our footprint. We see patients who undergo examinations, fertility treatment and many other procedures, so our foot traffic is by no means just donors. The only way that anyone can confirm your participation as a donor is if you confirm it with them.

Important note

Even if you meet the minimum sperm donation requirements, you still may not qualify as a donor for a variety of reasons. Information regarding the reasons for your disqualification from the sperm donation programme shall not be provided. Please carefully consider if our sperm donation policy is acceptable prior to deciding to participate.
