{"id":78668,"date":"2019-06-28T15:50:52","date_gmt":"2019-06-28T12:50:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nmc.lt\/information-for-clients\/pasiruosimas-tyrimams\/kaip-pasiruosti-endoskopiniams-tyrimams\/"},"modified":"2020-03-05T18:19:24","modified_gmt":"2020-03-05T16:19:24","slug":"how-to-prepare-for-endoscopic-examinations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/nmc.lt\/en\/information-for-clients\/how-to-prepare-for-tests\/how-to-prepare-for-endoscopic-examinations\/","title":{"rendered":"How to prepare for endoscopic examinations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gastrointestinal&nbsp;endoscopy (fibrogastroscopy)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Do not eat or drink anything for 7-8\nhours before your examination.<\/li><li>If intravenous anaesthesia is planned\nfor the procedure and the procedure is not scheduled in the morning, you should\navoid eating or drinking for the entire day.<\/li><li>If you are taking medication to control\nyour blood pressure, you should take it in the morning with some water.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Proctoscopy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The rectum must be emptied before the\nexamination by ingesting 2 micro-enemas which can be purchased at a pharmacy.\nOne micro-enema must be ingested in the evening, while the other must be\ningested 2 hours before the procedure.<\/li><li>Do not eat or drink anything for 6 hours\nbefore your examination. You can drink only water.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Colonoscopy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Preparation method of the large\nintestine (colon) for the colonoscopy procedure is individually tailored to\neach patient (for example, if you have constipation or diabetes mellitus, your preparation\nwill be different and more intensive than usual).<\/li><li>You should eat low-fibre foods for 1-3\ndays before the procedure (refer to the below-listed recommendations on\nnutrition).<\/li><li>If your colonoscopy is scheduled in the\nmorning (8.00-12.00 a.m.), you should drink preparation solutions the night\nbefore the examination. It is important to drink the last solution at least 6\nhours before the exam.<\/li><li>If your colonoscopy is scheduled in the\nmiddle of the day (12.00 a.m.-3.00 p.m.), you should drink half of the solution\non the night before the exam, while the second half should be drunk early in\nthe morning on the day of the exam, and then the last portion 4 hours before\nthe procedure.<\/li><li>If your colonoscopy is scheduled in the\nlate afternoon or evening (3.00 p.m.-8.00 p.m.), you can drink the entire preparation\nsolution on the day of the exam.<\/li><li>You must not eat or drink on the day of\nthe procedure. If you have to take medication due to a chronic condition, you\ncan do so with some water in the morning (on the day of the exam).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Nutritional\nrecommendations as part of preparation for colonoscopy<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2-3 days before the procedure (for\nexample, if the exam is scheduled for Monday, start your preparation on Friday)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<table class=\"wp-block-table\"><tbody><tr><td>\n  Foods that are not allowed:\n  <\/td><td>\n  Foods that are allowed:\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  \u2013 Seeds, nuts, cereals and groats, foods and red-\n  or violet-coloured drinks, all foods, fruits and vegetables, except for\n  white-coloured foods, fruits and vegetables\n  <\/td><td>\n  \u2013 Milk, natural yoghurt with&nbsp;no additives,\n  cottage cheese, mayonnaise with no herbs, sour cream, whipped cream, butter <br>\n  \u2013 White bread, white rice, white pasta, straight&nbsp;grade flour <br>\n  \u2013 Jacket potato <br>\n  \u2013 Skinless chicken breast, skinless white fish fillet, eggs <br>\n  &nbsp;\u2013 Cheese with no additives (without\n  cumin or herbs) <br>\n  &nbsp;\u2013 White chocolate with no additives,\n  vanilla ice cream, sugar\n  <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1 day before the procedure (for example,\nif the exam is scheduled for Monday, start your preparation on Sunday)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You\ncan eat a light breakfast (for example, a boiled egg with a slice of white\nbread or a plate of rice) before 9 a.m. You can drink clear fluids (up to 2\nlitres) for the remaining time until the procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<table class=\"wp-block-table\"><tbody><tr><td>\n  Foods that are not allowed:\n  <\/td><td>\n  Foods that are allowed:\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  \u2013 Alcoholic beverages, milk and milk products,\n  smoothies, unclear juices (orange, tomato, multivitamin, grapefruit, etc.),\n  soups, red or violet drinks, ice-jollies or jelly.\n  <\/td><td>\n  \u2013 Water <br>\n  \u2013 Tea, coffee with no sugar, whipped cream or syrup <br>\n  &nbsp;\u2013 Clear refreshing drinks (except for\n  red-\/violet-coloured drinks) <br>\n  &nbsp;\u2013 Apple juice <br>\n  &nbsp;\u2013 Clear broth <br>\n  \u2013 Ice-jollies with no additives (except for red-\/violet coloured)\n  \u2013 Jelly with no additives (except for red-\/violet-coloured).\n  <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>\n\n\n\n<p>If intravenous\nanaesthesia is planned for the endoscopy, you should come with an accompanying\nperson.
