If a conservative treatment, i.e. reposition and plastering, cannot be applied to bone fracture, then an osteosynthesis that involves uniting of bones is applied. During the surgery the bones are united by implantable devices made of metal (screws, wires, plates, etc.).
When the bone fracture heals, metal structures become unnecessary and foreign body. Then a surgery involving removal of metal structures is performed. During the surgery a small incision is made on the site of the previous surgical scar to remove the metal structures. Duration of the surgery depends on the number of structures, and takes from 15 to 30 minutes.
