Northway Fertility Centres offer comprehensive infertility treatment options. Treatment plan is tailored for each patient. There are three main treatment methods: medication therapy, surgical treatment, and assisted reproduction. Lifestyle changes can also significantly contribute to the successful infertility treatment.
Female infertility is treated with medications when the following causes of infertility have been diagnosed:
Women with ovulation disorders may be treated with medications that stimulate (induce) ovulation.
Men can be given medication and food supplements to improve sperm quality.
Infertility can sometimes be caused by structural changes in a man's or woman's reproductive organs. Northway Fertility Centres offer minimally invasive surgical procedures to address the causes of infertility, including laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. Surgical treatment may be applied when a partner is diagnosed with:
Surgical treatment for obstructive azoospermia or varicocele (varicocelectomy) may be indicated for the partner.
Acupuncture is a treatment method from traditional Chinese medicine that is based on the stimulation of biologically active points. Western medical acupuncture is a therapeutic adaptation of Chinese acupuncture, developed using current knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology, along with principles of evidence-based medicine. The World Health Organization recommends acupuncture as an effective treatment method.
The use of acupuncture in the treatment of infertility has significantly increased since the publication of Stener-Victorin's Study in 1996. Research has shown that acupuncture, when combined with medical assisted reproductive technology procedures, has a significant positive effect on conception rates. The research data indicate that acupuncture influences the release of hormones important for fertility, thereby improving the function of the reproductive organs. It can enhance the receptivity of the endometrium by improving blood flow to the uterus, which increases the chances of having a baby. Additionally, acupuncture therapy successfully suppresses the release of stress hormones, as well as the sympathetic nervous system. When the latter is activated, it affects the parasympathetic nervous system responsible for reproductive functions, and causes its failure.
Fertility is affected by a number of different body systems and is largely influenced by our daily habits. Our lifestyle, including sleep, diet, exercise, bad habits and the environment around us, directly influences our overall health and, inevitably, our fertility.
A consultation with a lifestyle medicine professional or dietitian, as well as an individual habit change plan for couples or one of the spouses, can be a crucial step toward infertility treatment. Eliminating harmful behaviors, optimizing body mass index (BMI), and making other lifestyle changes can all contribute to the successful treatment of infertility and increase the chances of pregnancy.
